Explaining America to my friends around the globe who ask me what is going on? 

Well, the post 9-11 world of the Obama Administration was very different than today’s world. Obama read the  polls and pretty much did what the majority of Americans wanted (for instance, we wanted no more Mideast wars). 

Unfortunately for you and me the US Congress, which is the most powerful government institution, then and now lives in a rarified bubble unconnected with reality. 

Worse luck, for all of us, there is no majority American consensus on much of anything but fear … fear for ourselves, our families and our country.  Fear conquers compassion and truth. That is one of the main reasons Trump has no rudder.
